About the PiG
The
PG Club is fundamentally a non-profit organization, which exists for
the social benefit of its members. It is run by a small Committee, which
is elected every year by the members at the Club's AGM. Its bar and
food service is an independent enterprise run by Olives & Plates.
Access to the PiG is by membership only, but virtually everyone in the Wits community OTHER THAN undergraduate students is welcome to join.
Postgraduates,
alumni, academic staff, and support staff are all eligible for
membership, and the PiG also offers special "external" memberships for
others with some connection to the Wits community. Membership is on
an annual basis, and can be attained by going to the Club, asking for and filling in the relevant form, and paying the appropriate fee. In addition, the Club offers a three-month, non-renewable temporary membership , for
visitors, or for those who want to try to place out before becoming a
regular member. Members are also welcome to bring occasional guests to
the Club to join them for a bite or a sip.
Committee
members, and members in general, donate their time and 'in-kind'
support for the operation and management of the club. Some funds are
raised through 'special events' and 'promotions' designed to enhance the
cultural and intellectual milieu afforded to the membership. But the
vast majority of the Club's revenue is from the aforementioned
membership fees.We
welcome you and your friends to join us in a relaxed environment where
you will always have the chance to interact with postgraduates of
various disciplines. The PiG is more than a place to have a beer; it is
full of intellectual engagement, communication and student involvement
in a range of topics. Meet professors, teachers and students, some of
whom have been with us since the PiG was opened thirty years ago!
